COURSE CURRICULUM

The Art BA degree is a 120-credit undergraduate program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in visual arts, art history, creative expression, and critical thinking while allowing flexibility to specialize in either studio art or art history. The program combines general education subjects such as communication, humanities, sciences, mathematics, social sciences, and public speaking with intensive artistic and historical studies to develop both creative and analytical skills. All students complete foundation courses in drawing, design, and three-dimensional art, which help build technical skills and artistic understanding. The curriculum also includes core art history and theory courses that explore the development of art across different cultures and historical periods. Students then choose between two specialized tracks. The Studio Track focuses on hands-on artistic practice and allows students to select two studio sequences such as drawing, painting, graphic design, ceramics, sculpture, digital design, or printmaking. These courses help students develop technical expertise, creativity, portfolio-quality work, and professional artistic skills. Students in this track also complete advanced art history courses, including at least one writing-intensive course. The Art History Track emphasizes research, historical analysis, and cultural studies through advanced art history courses covering topics such as Renaissance art, Asian art, modern art, women in art, and graphic design history, while also requiring selected studio art electives to maintain creative experience. The program includes a capstone course completed during the senior year, allowing students to integrate their artistic knowledge, research, and creative development into a final project or portfolio. Additional foreign language requirements broaden cultural understanding and support global artistic perspectives. Graduates of the Art BA program are prepared for careers in fine arts, graphic design, museums, galleries, education, arts administration, illustration, digital media, and creative industries, while also building a strong foundation for graduate studies in art, design, art history, or related creative disciplines.
