COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s Entry to the Profession of Nursing (MEPN) program is an accelerated, prelicensure graduate pathway designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in a non-nursing discipline and are seeking to transition into professional nursing practice at a faster pace than traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs. The curriculum is structured across five sequential semesters and integrates foundational nursing sciences, advanced clinical knowledge, and extensive hands-on practice experiences to prepare students for entry-level registered nurse licensure. The program begins with core scientific and nursing foundation courses such as Health Assessment (NUR 508), Human Pathophysiology (NUR 512), Intro to Dosage Calculation (NUR 515), Concept Foundations for Nursing (NUR 523), and Nursing Informatics (NUR 733), which together build essential clinical reasoning and technical competencies. In the second semester, students progress into pharmacology, fundamentals of professional nursing practice, and implementation-based learning. Subsequent semesters emphasize population-specific and systems-based clinical practice, including adult health, mental health, childbearing, pediatric, and community health nursing, along with health policy, leadership development, and population health applications. Advanced coursework such as Complex Client Care, Transition to Rural Health Practice, and Preparation for Licensure further strengthens clinical judgment, adaptability, and readiness for real-world nursing environments. The program totals 68 credit hours and incorporates both theoretical instruction and supervised clinical experiences designed to ensure competency across diverse healthcare settings. By the final semester, students focus on synthesis of knowledge, leadership roles in interdisciplinary care, and preparation for professional licensure through targeted exam readiness courses. Overall, the MEPN program prepares graduates to serve effectively as entry-level nurses in urban and rural healthcare systems while also providing a strong academic foundation in leadership, informatics, policy, and evidence-based practice for future professional growth in nursing.
