COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MS-MIS) requires the completion of 30 semester hours of approved graduate-level coursework under a plan of study developed in consultation with and approved by the MS-MIS Program Director. The curriculum is designed to provide advanced training in information systems analysis, enterprise technology management, cybersecurity, and IT strategy, with a strong emphasis on applied learning and real-world business problem solving. Students complete a set of 15 credit hours of required core courses that establish a foundation in key areas of information systems practice and research. These include MIS 505 (Enterprise Network and Security), which focuses on protecting and managing organizational network infrastructures; MIS 520 (Systems Analysis and Design), which develops skills in modeling and designing effective information systems; MIS 530 (System Development and Implementation), which emphasizes the process of building and deploying enterprise systems; MIS 535 (Information Systems Consulting), which prepares students for advisory roles in IT and business environments; and MIS 598 (Research in Management Information Systems), which introduces students to research methods and applied inquiry in MIS contexts. In addition to the core, students complete 15 credit hours of electives, allowing for specialization and customization of their academic experience. At least 9 of these elective credits must come from MIS 500-level or 600-level courses, while the remaining 6 credit hours must be selected from approved non-MIS electives, subject to approval by the program coordinator. This flexible structure enables students to align their studies with specific career goals such as cybersecurity, data analytics, IT consulting, or systems management. Overall, the MS-MIS program integrates technical expertise with strategic and managerial perspectives, preparing graduates for leadership roles in information technology and business-driven digital transformation initiatives across diverse industries.
