COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master’s program in Hospitality Management with a focus on Sport and Hospitality is designed to develop advanced knowledge and leadership skills for students seeking careers in the hospitality, tourism, and sport industries, with options for both thesis and non-thesis study plans totaling 30 credit hours. The curriculum is structured to provide a strong foundation in research, management, and industry-specific decision-making, beginning with core courses such as Research Methods (HES 509), Hospitality Law and Risk Management (HSM 521), Leadership in Hospitality and Sport (HSM 570), Sport and Hospitality Financial Management (HSM 575), Strategic Management in Hospitality and Tourism (HSM 576), Consumer Behavior in Hospitality and Tourism (HSM 580), and the Hospitality Management Seminar (HSM 596). These courses collectively build expertise in organizational leadership, financial decision-making, legal and risk frameworks, consumer behavior analysis, and strategic planning within service-based industries. Students in the thesis option complete an additional 6 credit hours of Thesis Research (HSM 599), along with a 3-credit approved elective, allowing them to engage in original research that strengthens analytical and academic competencies and prepares them for potential doctoral-level study or research-focused careers. In contrast, the non-thesis option replaces the thesis requirement with a broader elective component totaling 9 credit hours and requires students to complete a comprehensive exam as a culminating assessment of their knowledge and professional readiness. The program also offers a wide range of approved electives such as Sport Management Principles and Practice, Sport Venue Management, Sports Marketing and Public Relations, International Sport Strategy, and Customer Service Management, enabling students to tailor their studies to specific career goals in sport, hospitality, or tourism sectors. Additional flexibility allows advisor-approved 500-level courses to further customize academic pathways. Overall, the program integrates theory, applied learning, and professional development to prepare graduates for leadership roles in global hospitality, tourism, and sport industries.
