COURSE CURRICULUM
The Quantitative Economics MA program is a highly rigorous and mathematically intensive graduate program designed for students with strong preparation in economics, statistics, and mathematics. Because of its advanced quantitative focus, students entering the program are expected to already possess substantial undergraduate-level training in core analytical disciplines before beginning graduate study. Specifically, applicants are required to have completed foundational coursework in intermediate economic theory, statistical methods, and calculus, or equivalent courses that demonstrate comparable competency. The required undergraduate preparation includes Intermediate Microeconomics (EC 308) and Intermediate Macroeconomics (EC 309), which provide essential theoretical grounding in microeconomic decision-making and macroeconomic systems, including markets, consumer and firm behavior, inflation, output, and economic policy dynamics. In addition, students must complete Statistical Data Analysis (ST 260), which introduces essential concepts in probability, data interpretation, and statistical inference that form the backbone of econometric analysis at the graduate level. Mathematical preparation is also critical, requiring completion of either Calculus and Applications (MATH 121) or Calculus I (MATH 125), ensuring that students have a solid foundation in differential and integral calculus needed for advanced economic modeling and quantitative reasoning. Students who have not completed one or more of these prerequisites are expected to remedy any deficiencies by enrolling in appropriate courses during the summer prior to beginning the MA program. This structured preparation ensures that all incoming students enter the program with a consistent baseline of analytical skills, enabling them to successfully engage with the program’s demanding coursework in econometrics, quantitative economics, and economic theory. Overall, these prerequisites reflect the program’s commitment to maintaining a strong quantitative standard and preparing students for advanced professional or doctoral-level work in economics.
