COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Kinesiology is a graduate program designed to provide advanced study in human movement, physical activity, sport, and health sciences, with multiple pathways that allow students to align their coursework with professional goals in teaching, exercise science, or broader kinesiology-related careers. The program offers four primary options: Class A Physical Education certification, Alternative Class A Physical Education certification, Exercise Science focused study, and General Studies in Kinesiology. The Class A Physical Education track is intended for students seeking traditional teacher certification and prepares graduates for teaching physical education in P–12 school settings, emphasizing pedagogy, curriculum design, assessment, and instructional practice grounded in physical education standards. The Alternative Class A certification pathway is designed for individuals who hold non-teaching undergraduate degrees and wish to transition into physical education teaching, providing the necessary coursework and professional preparation for initial certification. The Exercise Science focused area of study emphasizes scientific principles underlying human performance, including physiology, biomechanics, motor control, and exercise programming, preparing students for careers in fitness, strength and conditioning, rehabilitation support, or preparation for doctoral study in exercise science or related health fields. The General Studies in Kinesiology option provides a flexible curriculum that allows students to explore a broader range of topics within kinesiology, supporting individualized academic and professional goals across sport, health, and human movement disciplines. Across all tracks, the program emphasizes evidence-based practice, applied learning, and professional development in kinesiology. Students may also transfer approved graduate credits into the program, subject to departmental and Graduate School policies, allowing for flexibility in building a personalized plan of study.
