COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree requires students to complete a comprehensive program totaling at least 120 credit hours, combining university core requirements with specialized coursework in social work, while maintaining a minimum 2.5 GPA in the major and 2.25 overall GPA, ensuring academic readiness for professional practice; the curriculum is divided into pre-professional and professional program courses, beginning with 34 credit hours of foundational subjects such as introductory psychology, sociology, biology, communication, social justice, and professional writing, along with courses like orientation to social work, reform and resistance, and anti-oppression studies, which help students understand social systems, human behavior, and inequality, while also requiring one course in social psychology and one in statistics to build analytical and research skills; the advanced professional phase includes 40–43 credit hours focusing on core social work competencies, including social welfare policy, human behavior in social environments, psychopathology, research methods, and practice courses that train students to work effectively with individuals, families, groups, and communities, along with a seminar in generalist practice and leadership development; a major component of the program is the practicum education requirement, which consists of 9 credit hours of supervised field experience, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world social service settings and develop hands-on professional skills; students may also complete elective courses to further specialize their interests, depending on their chosen coursework path; additional program details note that some courses may require proctored exams or in-person components not always available online, and students may need to complete certain requirements at other institutions if necessary; overall, the BSW program provides a structured and practical education focused on developing competent, ethical, and socially responsible professionals prepared to address complex social issues and support diverse populations.
