COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (BSChE) requires a total of 128 credit hours and combines general education, major coursework, and ancillary courses to provide a strong foundation in engineering principles and scientific knowledge. The major courses account for 58 credit hours and include core subjects such as thermodynamics, fluid flow, heat transfer, separation processes, transport phenomena, reactor design, and process dynamics and control. Students also complete laboratory courses that develop hands-on skills in analyzing and operating chemical systems, along with a two-part chemical process design sequence that emphasizes real-world problem solving, safety, and efficiency. In addition, students must complete electives in advanced science, chemical engineering, biochemistry, and engineering systems, allowing them to specialize based on their interests.The ancillary courses contribute 48 credit hours and cover essential supporting subjects such as biology, general and organic chemistry, calculus, differential equations, and physics. These courses provide the scientific and mathematical background necessary to understand and solve complex engineering problems. Students also complete career electives, which offer flexibility to explore additional engineering, science, or business-related topics that align with their career goals.The program also offers opportunities for specialization and advancement. Students can pursue a dual major in chemical engineering and chemistry, which integrates advanced chemistry courses into the curriculum. There is also a departmental honors program for high-achieving students, requiring additional honors coursework and research or internship experience.Furthermore, a biological engineering concentration allows students to focus on areas such as biochemistry, biotechnology, and bioengineering through elective courses.Overall, the curriculum is designed to balance theory, practical application, and design experience, preparing graduates for careers in industry, research, or further professional and academic study.
