COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health requires students to complete a total of 120 semester hours, including 54 credit hours within the major, which combines core public health courses and a required concentration, ensuring a strong foundation in health promotion, disease prevention, and community health systems, while students must meet admission criteria set by the university and maintain specific GPA standards based on their chosen concentration by the time they complete 60 credit hours or upon transfer into the program, with a minimum GPA of 3.00 required for the Health Professions concentration and 2.50 for the Health Education and Promotion concentration; the major includes essential courses such as personal health, human health and disease, foundations of public health, health behavior theory, environmental health, epidemiology, health disparities, and social marketing, along with a required statistics course and a biology-related course, and students must earn at least a C- in key courses like HHE 350 to progress successfully; in addition to the 33 credit hours of core major requirements, students must complete 21 credit hours in one of the two concentrations, where the Health Education and Promotion track focuses on program planning, evaluation, and community-based health initiatives along with electives and practical experiences such as internships or research, while the Health Professions track is designed for students preparing for careers in medicine, nursing, or allied health fields and includes a capstone course along with a wide range of approved science and health-related electives such as biology, chemistry, psychology, and medical terminology; overall, the program is structured to provide both academic knowledge and practical skills, offering flexibility through concentration choices while ensuring students meet rigorous academic standards, preparing them for immediate entry into the workforce or further education in healthcare and public health-related fields.
