COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology requires students to complete all university, college, and departmental requirements, including general education courses, an approved minor, and sufficient credits to reach at least 120 semester hours, while the psychology major itself consists of 43 credit hours that emphasize both scientific and analytical approaches to understanding behavior; core courses include introductory psychology, statistical methods, professional issues, experimental psychology, and history and systems, providing a strong foundation in research, theory, and application, along with a required seminar sequence consisting of two courses, including a senior seminar, which develops advanced research, writing, and presentation skills; students must also complete one upper-level elective and fulfill an area requirement by selecting three courses from three different content areas such as developmental psychology, learning and cognition, social and personality psychology, and biologically based psychology, with at least one course at the 400 level to ensure depth of knowledge; in addition, the program includes ancillary coursework outside the major, including calculus and eight credit hours in science subjects like biology, chemistry, or physics, although these grades are not counted toward the major GPA; students are required to maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in the major, complete at least 12 upper-level credits in residence, and earn a minimum grade of C- in required statistics courses, while also following prerequisite rules such as completing introductory psychology before higher-level courses and meeting credit requirements before enrolling in advanced classes; overall, the BS in Psychology is more science-focused than the BA option, combining quantitative skills, research training, and interdisciplinary knowledge to prepare students for graduate study or careers in healthcare, research, and scientific fields.
