COURSE CURRICULUM

Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at The University of Alabama are required to complete a structured program core that builds a strong scientific and practical foundation before advancing into their chosen concentration, with the core totaling 17 credit hours and focusing on essential knowledge and skills related to human health, movement, and safety; the coursework begins with First Aid, Safety, and CPR, which equips students with life-saving techniques and emergency response skills crucial for any health or fitness professional, followed by Human Anatomy and Physiology I, a key science course that provides an in-depth understanding of the structure and function of the human body, forming the biological basis for all further study in kinesiology; students then take Physiology of Exercise, which explores how the body responds and adapts to physical activity, helping them understand performance, endurance, and conditioning, along with Applied Biomechanics, which examines the mechanical principles of human movement and allows students to analyze motion, improve performance, and reduce injury risk; Evaluation and Measurement is another important component that teaches students how to assess physical fitness, performance outcomes, and program effectiveness using scientific methods, while Adapted Physical Education focuses on modifying physical activity programs to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities, promoting inclusivity and accessibility in fitness and education environments; together, these core courses ensure that all kinesiology majors, regardless of whether they specialize in Exercise Science or Physical Education, develop a comprehensive understanding of human movement, safety, assessment, and inclusive practices, preparing them for a wide range of careers in health, fitness, rehabilitation, and education, as well as for advanced study in related professional fields.
