COURSE CURRICULUM
The general business major provides students with a broad foundation across accounting, finance, economics, management, and marketing, allowing them to understand how different parts of an organization work together and how business decisions are made in real-world environments. It is designed for students who want flexibility in their studies, often combining business knowledge with a minor or second area of interest outside business, and it also serves as a strong pathway for those planning to pursue graduate studies in business, law, or other professional fields. Students are required to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 for admission and continuation in the major. The curriculum includes core selections such as accounting options like managerial accounting or corporate financial reporting, finance courses covering financial markets and institutions, economics courses including intermediate microeconomics or macroeconomics, and management or marketing courses that explore leadership, consumer behavior, entrepreneurship, or digital marketing. Students also complete additional approved business electives to deepen or broaden their understanding of specialized topics. Overall, the program is structured to build analytical thinking, communication skills, and a strong understanding of economic and organizational systems, preparing graduates for diverse career opportunities in corporate settings, entrepreneurship, consulting, public sector roles, and further academic study, while emphasizing adaptability in an increasingly global and data-driven business environment.Students earning the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with a major in geography must complete all University, College, and departmental degree requirements, including general education, major coursework, an approved minor, and additional credits to reach a minimum of 120 applicable semester hours. The major begins with foundational geography courses such as atmospheric processes, earth surface systems, world regional geography, human-environment interactions, and mapping and spatial reasoning, followed by a selected concentration and elective coursework that allows students to specialize in an area aligned with their academic and career interests. Students must also complete ancillary coursework outside the major, including Calculus I and a statistics course such as statistical data analysis, applied statistical methods, or educational statistics, which support the analytical and quantitative skills needed in modern geographic study. A minimum GPA of 2.0 in the major is required, and at least 12 hours of upper-level (300–400 level) geography courses must be completed on campus to satisfy residency requirements. Students are also required to complete a minor and ensure that all geography courses counting toward the degree are passed with a grade of C- or higher. The program offers three main concentrations: Earth System Science, focusing on physical geography topics such as climate, hydrology, soils, and ecosystem processes; Regional, Urban and Environmental Planning, which emphasizes human geography, land use, policy, and sustainable development; and Geographic Information Techniques, which focuses on GIS, remote sensing, spatial analysis, and geospatial technologies. Each concentration requires at least 12 credit hours and allows students to tailor their degree toward environmental science, planning, or advanced geospatial careers, with additional opportunities for internships and field-based learning.
