COURSE CURRICULUM

Finance majors are required to complete a structured set of core courses along with a concentration, second major, or approved minor to build both breadth and specialization in financial studies. The core curriculum includes intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, introduction to financial institutions and markets, intermediate financial management, money and capital markets, and investments, which together develop a strong understanding of economic principles and financial systems. In total, the major core provides a foundation in economic theory, corporate finance, market behavior, and investment analysis.Beyond the core, students must choose a concentration, second major, or approved minor ranging from 9 to 18 credit hours, allowing them to specialize in a specific area of interest. One option is Banking and Financial Services, which focuses on financial institutions, regulation, risk management, and the services provided by banks and related organizations, preparing students for entry-level careers in the financial services industry. Another option is Financial Engineering, which emphasizes quantitative methods and advanced financial modeling, including topics such as derivatives, econometrics, and statistical inference, and requires additional coursework in calculus and analytical finance.
