COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science is a 120-credit degree designed to provide students with a strong foundation in computing theory, software development, systems design, and applied problem-solving. The program combines core engineering and computer science coursework with mathematics, science, and elective study to prepare graduates for careers in technology or for further academic study. Students begin with foundational engineering and programming courses such as ENGR 101 and ENGR 104, followed by core computer science subjects including programming fundamentals, data structures and algorithms, software design and engineering, and database management systems. As the curriculum progresses, students study more advanced topics such as operating systems and networking, programming languages, and computational algorithms, culminating in a senior capstone course that integrates knowledge from across the discipline into a comprehensive computing project. Supporting coursework in digital logic and microcomputers provides additional understanding of hardware and system-level computing. A significant portion of the degree is completed through upper-level CS electives, allowing students to specialize in areas such as artificial intelligence, systems programming, software development, or cybersecurity. Ancillary requirements strengthen mathematical and analytical skills through courses in calculus, discrete mathematics, linear algebra, probability or statistics, and natural sciences, ensuring students can understand and apply rigorous computational methods. Students also complete free electives to broaden their academic experience. The program emphasizes logical thinking, technical proficiency, and problem-solving skills that are essential in modern computing environments. Graduates are well prepared for careers in software engineering, systems analysis, data science, cybersecurity, and other technology-driven fields, as well as for graduate study. Additionally, students may pursue an optional cybersecurity concentration by completing selected upper-level courses, further enhancing expertise in network security, cryptography, digital forensics, and related areas without increasing the total degree credit requirement.
