COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BS) degree requires students to complete a comprehensive curriculum totaling 125 credit hours, combining general education, major coursework, and ancillary requirements. The program begins with foundational engineering courses such as ENGR 101, ENGR 104, and ENGR 171, followed by essential technical subjects including statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and fluid mechanics, which build the core analytical and problem-solving skills needed in civil engineering. Students then progress into specialized civil engineering areas such as environmental engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, construction engineering, and water resources engineering, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of infrastructure systems. Practical application is emphasized through courses like civil surveying, engineering materials, and a capstone design project (CE 401 or CE 403), where students integrate their knowledge to solve real-world engineering problems. The curriculum also includes engineering systems electives and design electives, allowing students to tailor their studies toward specific interests such as structural design, environmental systems, construction methods, or transportation systems. In addition, students must complete general electives to broaden their academic experience. The ancillary requirements strengthen the scientific and mathematical foundation of the degree, including courses in general chemistry, calculus I–III, differential equations, and calculus-based physics, along with an additional approved science course. This rigorous combination of theory, application, and design prepares graduates to address complex engineering challenges, contribute to sustainable development, and pursue professional licensure or advanced studies. Students must also adhere to all College of Engineering academic policies throughout the program, ensuring they meet the standards required for successful completion and professional readiness.
