COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (BCh) degree requires students to complete all university, college, and departmental requirements along with general education courses to achieve a minimum of 120 total credit hours. The program offers two ACS-certified degree tracks in chemistry and biochemistry, both designed to prepare students for careers in scientific industries, graduate study, or entry into professional health programs such as medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry. Students must earn at least a C- in prerequisites for all upper-level (300- and 400-level) chemistry courses and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the major to graduate. Additionally, at least 18 credit hours of upper-level coursework must be completed in residence. The chemistry track requires 41 credit hours and includes courses such as general chemistry, quantitative analysis, organic chemistry with laboratory components, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry I and II with lab, instrumental analysis, and biochemistry I. The biochemistry track requires 43 credit hours and includes all core chemistry courses along with additional specialized courses such as biochemistry II and a biochemistry laboratory, providing deeper insight into biological and molecular systems. In addition to major coursework, students must complete ancillary courses in mathematics and physics, including Calculus I, II, and III and General Physics I and II with calculus, which together total around 20 credit hours and provide essential support for advanced chemical concepts. Although grades in ancillary courses do not count toward the major GPA, they are crucial for academic success. The program does not require a minor, allowing students to focus fully on chemistry coursework. Overall, the degree combines rigorous theoretical learning with extensive laboratory experience, equipping students with strong analytical, experimental, and problem-solving skills necessary for success in research, industry, or further education.
