COURSE CURRICULUM

Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre must complete all university, college, and departmental requirements, including general education, a required minor, and enough coursework to reach at least 120 total semester hours, while the theatre major itself requires 36 credit hours focused on both theoretical knowledge and practical production experience. The curriculum begins with foundational courses such as Introduction to Theatre and Acting I, followed by hands-on practicum courses that provide real production participation experience across multiple semesters, helping students build practical skills in performance and stage work. Students also take technical and creative courses like stagecraft or costume construction, along with directing or arts management to develop a broader understanding of theatre production and leadership roles. The program includes theatre history courses covering both early and modern developments in theatre, ensuring students gain cultural and historical context alongside practical training. In addition to required courses, students must complete elective hours, including upper-level theatre electives, allowing them to explore specialized interests such as acting, directing, or design. A minimum GPA of 2.0 in the major is required for graduation, and students must complete at least 12 credit hours of advanced-level courses at the institution to meet residency requirements.
