COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology requires students to complete all university, college, and departmental requirements, including general education courses, an approved minor, and sufficient credits to reach a minimum of 120 semester hours, while the psychology major itself consists of 39 credit hours designed to provide a strong foundation in understanding human behavior, research methods, and applied psychology; core courses include introductory psychology, professional issues, statistical methods, experimental psychology, and history and systems of psychology, ensuring students develop both theoretical knowledge and research skills, along with at least one upper-level elective to deepen their expertise; students must also complete a seminar sequence consisting of two courses, including a required senior seminar, which helps build advanced analytical, writing, and presentation skills through guided academic work; in addition, the program includes area requirements where students select nine credit hours from at least three different domains such as developmental psychology, learning and cognition, social and personality psychology, and biologically based psychology, with at least one course at the 400 level, ensuring both breadth and depth of study across key psychological perspectives; the degree also requires completion of eight credit hours of ancillary science courses outside the major, such as biology, chemistry, or physics, though these grades are not included in the major GPA; students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in the major, complete at least 12 upper-level credits in residence, and earn a minimum grade of C- in required statistics courses, while also following prerequisite structures, such as completing introductory psychology before advanced courses and meeting credit requirements before enrolling in 400-level classes; overall, the program emphasizes research, critical thinking, and communication skills, preparing students for diverse careers or further study in psychology and related fields.
