COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science requires students to complete all university, college, and departmental requirements, including general education courses, an approved minor, and enough credits to reach a minimum of 120 semester hours, while the political science major itself consists of 30 credit hours structured to provide both foundational knowledge and specialized understanding of political systems; students must begin with core courses such as Intro to American Politics and then choose two additional introductory subjects from areas like comparative politics, international relations, political theory, public administration, or research methods, building a broad base across key subfields; beyond this, students are required to complete a field requirement by selecting at least three credit hours in three different fields, ensuring exposure to multiple areas such as American government, comparative politics, political theory, public policy and administration, and international relations, each offering a wide range of courses covering topics like elections, law, global conflicts, public policy, and political ideologies; in addition, students must complete 12 hours of upper-level electives (300–499), allowing them to deepen their knowledge in specific interests or career goals, whether related to governance, international affairs, or political analysis; the program emphasizes flexibility and academic exploration while maintaining a structured framework that ensures students gain both breadth and depth in political science, helping them develop critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and communication skills that are essential for careers in government, law, public policy, media, education, and international organizations, making it a comprehensive and adaptable degree suited to a wide range of professional pathways.
