COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Statistics offers students a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop advanced statistical knowledge and practical skills applicable across diverse professional and research settings. The core curriculum consists of courses in Statistical Data Management (STAT 580), Experimental Design (STAT 663), and Regression (STAT 665), totaling nine credits, which provide foundational skills essential for graduate-level statistical analysis. Students may choose between a thesis and non-thesis option, each requiring 30 credits of graduate work. The thesis option includes Theoretical Statistics I and II (STAT 551 and STAT 552), Statistical Consulting (STAT 595), a Master’s Thesis (STAT 699), and 12 credits of approved graduate electives, summing to 21–23 credits; upon completion, the thesis must be presented in a colloquium to faculty and students for review. The non-thesis option similarly requires STAT 551, STAT 552, STAT 595, a Statistics Master’s Paper (STAT 692), and 12 credits of approved graduate electives, totaling 21–24 credits. Both options emphasize rigorous analytical training, research competency, and applied statistical problem-solving. Electives allow students to tailor their program to specific areas of interest, ensuring both depth and breadth of expertise. This structured yet flexible curriculum equips graduates for professional roles in business, industry, government, and scientific research, as well as for further advanced study in statistics and related disciplines.
