COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Science program with a Coaching or Sport Administration concentration requires completion of 33 to 37 credit hours, integrating foundational, core, concentration, and elective courses to prepare students for professional careers in sport, coaching, and administration. Students begin with required foundation courses such as Current Issues in Sport and Physical Education or Seminar in Educational Psychology and Using Research to Inform Practice, establishing a strong understanding of the educational and psychological principles underpinning effective coaching and sport management. Core courses include Legal Aspects of Physical Activity, Principles of Coaching, Sports Administration and Supervision, Motor Behavior Applied to Sports, Tactics and Strategies in the Science of Coaching, and Motivational Aspects of Physical Activity, providing essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills in coaching, leadership, and athlete development. Students then select an area of concentration in either Sport Administration or Coaching. The Sport Administration path emphasizes Sport Planning and Promotion, Sports Leadership, and the Business of Sport, with applied experience options such as Field Experience, Masters Problem, or Thesis. The Coaching path focuses on Injury Management for Teachers and Coaches, Nutrition for Teachers and Coaches, and Physiology of Muscular Activity and Exercise, along with similar applied experiences. Additional electives, including workshops and special topics, allow students to tailor their program to professional interests. Together, the curriculum equips graduates with the expertise, practical experience, and leadership skills necessary to excel in coaching, sport administration, or related fields.
