COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Polymer Science is a 30-credit graduate program designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and research experience in the chemistry, physics, and characterization of polymeric materials. The degree requires completion of a structured curriculum combining core courses, electives, and a research thesis. Core courses, totaling 16 credits, include Polymer Chemistry (PLYS 601), Seminar in Polymer Science I (PLYS 607), Polymer Science Laboratory (PLYS 613), Polymer Physics I (PLYS 631), Polymer Characterization (PLYS 674), and Introduction to Biomacromolecules (PLYS 685), which provide a strong foundation in polymer synthesis, structural analysis, physical properties, and experimental techniques. Students also select 8 credits of elective courses tailored to their individual research interests and career goals, allowing for specialization in areas such as advanced polymer chemistry, biomaterials, nanotechnology, or polymer physics. The program emphasizes hands-on laboratory experience and analytical skills to prepare students for conducting high-level research. A 6-credit thesis (PLYS 699) constitutes a significant portion of the degree, requiring students to design and execute original research, analyze results, and present findings in a formal scholarly document.
