COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Education with Multi-Age (Grades P–12) Visual Arts Licensure is a comprehensive program designed to prepare students to teach art across all grade levels while fostering creativity, critical thinking, and pedagogical expertise. The program requires a minimum of 36 credits and combines education theory, instructional practice, and advanced studio art training. Core education coursework includes Psychology of Instruction for Teaching and Learning, Content Area Literacy, Instructional and Management Practices, and Inclusion Models and Strategies, providing a strong foundation in educational principles and diverse classroom strategies. Art-specific methods courses, such as Methods of Teaching Elementary and Secondary Art, prepare students for age-appropriate art instruction, supported by field experiences that integrate theory into practice. The Area of Concentration deepens professional and artistic knowledge through courses like Middle School Materials and Techniques, Art Bomb Brigade: Methods for Creating Public Art, and Advanced Practices for Visual Arts Licensure. The program culminates in a capstone field experience through supervised student teaching and participation in the Student Teaching Colloquium, ensuring readiness for real-world teaching environments.
