COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering offers both a Thesis and a Nonthesis option, each designed to provide rigorous, flexible training tailored to students’ professional and research goals. The Thesis Option requires 30 credit hours, including 15 hours of Mechanical Engineering courses, 3 hours of approved mathematics, 6 hours of approved electives, and 6 hours dedicated to the master’s thesis. The Nonthesis Option requires 32 credit hours, consisting of 15 hours of Mechanical Engineering courses, 3 hours of approved mathematics, 12 hours of approved electives, and a 2-hour engineering report. All master’s students must complete at least two core courses from a set of advanced topics that build foundational expertise in mechanical engineering. These include Finite Element Analysis I (MECE 609), Dynamics of Viscous Flow I (MECE 610), Computational Fluid Dynamics I (MECE 611), Conduction Heat Transfer (MECE 615), Continuum Mechanics (MECE 622), Mechanical Behavior of Materials (MECE 628), Vibrations of Discrete Systems (MECE 630), Engineering Analysis (MECE 660), and Analysis of Manufacturing Systems (MECE 666). This flexible curriculum allows students to focus on areas such as fluid mechanics, materials, dynamics, or thermal sciences while gaining analytical, computational, and experimental skills essential for advanced engineering practice or doctoral research.
