COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Science in Civil Engineering program who hold a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than engineering are required to have completed foundational coursework in calculus, differential equations, and one year of classical physics. Additionally, they must select and complete undergraduate coursework from one of four approved engineering disciplines to build a solid technical foundation. These undergraduate courses, totaling 23 credit hours, include Theory of Structures, Soil Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics I, Water Supply and Pollution Control, Hydraulic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Steel Design, and Reinforced Concrete Design, and may be taken either prior to or concurrently with graduate-level studies, provided the student is fully or provisionally admitted and enrolled in at least nine graduate credits. The department offers areas of study in structural mechanics, geotechnical, hydraulic, transportation, and environmental engineering, allowing students to specialize in fields aligned with their career goals. The thesis option for the M.S. degree consists of 15 credit hours of Civil Engineering courses, three credit hours of approved mathematics or science, six credit hours of approved electives, and six credit hours devoted to the master’s thesis, for a total of 30 graduate credit hours. This program provides both theoretical knowledge and practical research experience, preparing graduates for advanced engineering practice or further doctoral studies.
