COURSE CURRICULUM

The Thesis Option within the Master of Science in Biology program is designed primarily for students aiming to pursue research careers, including those planning to continue into doctoral programs in the biological sciences. This pathway emphasizes the integration of advanced coursework with original research, providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to conduct independent, high-level scientific investigations. Students are required to complete 24 credits of coursework beyond the master’s research and seminars, with the specific courses selected and approved by the student’s advisory committee to align with their research focus and career goals. In addition to coursework, students must complete a minimum of 12 credits dedicated to research and the development of a master’s thesis, allowing them to contribute novel findings to their field of study. Participation in departmental seminars is also a critical component of the program, with a minimum of four credits required, fostering engagement with current research topics, professional development, and scholarly discussion within the biology community.
