COURSE CURRICULUM

Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) Licensure program requires a minimum of 36 credit hours and prepares students to teach grades 7–12 in specialized subject areas such as Integrated Social Studies, Integrated Language Arts, Integrated Mathematics, and various Science disciplines, including Life Science, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, Dual Science, or Integrated Science. The program combines theoretical coursework with practical field experience to develop skilled and reflective educators. Core courses include Psychology of Instruction, Inclusion Models and Strategies, Content Area Literacy, Classroom Assessment, and Instructional and Management Practices. Students also complete specialized instructional techniques courses aligned with their chosen content area and gain hands-on experience through two stages of clinical teaching. Additional coursework, such as Global Education and Technology or Engineering for Educators, prepares candidates to incorporate technology and interdisciplinary approaches into teaching. The program culminates with advanced instructional techniques and a field experience in classroom instruction, ensuring graduates are equipped with the pedagogical knowledge, classroom management skills, and subject matter expertise needed to excel in secondary education. Upon completion, graduates are qualified for state licensure and prepared to create engaging, inclusive, and effective learning environments for diverse adolescent learners.
