COURSE CURRICULUM

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies necessary for licensure and employment in a variety of mental health settings, including community agencies, private practice, and college counseling centers. Accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the program ensures students meet nationally recognized standards for clinical training. The curriculum is structured to provide a strong foundation in counseling theory, ethics, and professional orientation, with courses in research, multicultural counseling, and human development across the lifespan. Core courses include counseling techniques, group counseling, career development, and assessment, while electives allow students to explore specialized areas such as play therapy, counseling youth at risk, marriage and family therapy, or counseling children and adolescents. Advanced specialty courses focus on clinical counseling, including diagnosis, treatment planning, evaluation of mental status, and addiction counseling, and are reinforced through supervised practical experiences, including prepracticum, practicum, and a culminating master’s internship. The program requires a minimum of 60 credit hours, combining classroom learning, applied clinical experiences, and supervised fieldwork, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for professional licensure as clinical mental health counselors and are ready to provide effective, ethical, and culturally responsive mental health services across diverse populations and clinical settings.
