COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture requires a total of 120 credit hours, combining general education, foundational art courses, art history, sculpture-specific coursework, studio electives, and general electives. Students complete 34 hours of general education, which includes writing, communication, mathematics, natural and social sciences, and recommended art history courses such as Survey of Global Art I and II. The 12-hour Foundation Core introduces essential artistic principles through courses like Foundation Drawing, 2D and 3D Design, and Foundation Studio and Lecture. Art History requirements total 15 hours and provide a broad understanding of global and contemporary art, culminating in advanced-level study. The 39-hour Sculpture Requirements sequence emphasizes technical and conceptual development through courses such as Production I, Introduction to Sculpture, Installation Art, Ceramics, Metalsmithing, Life and Intermediate Drawing, Advanced Sculpture (repeated for additional depth), Professional Practices, and the Senior Exhibition. Students must also pass a Sculpture Portfolio Review and maintain a 2.5 GPA in all ART courses. The program is completed with 12 hours of studio electives, allowing exploration in other art disciplines, and 8 hours of general electives. This curriculum prepares students for professional practice or graduate study, fostering creativity, craftsmanship, and critical engagement with contemporary sculpture.
