COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography requires a minimum of 120 credit hours and is structured to provide students with both a comprehensive general education and in-depth professional training in photography. General education coursework consists of 36 credit hours, covering academic foundations in mathematics, statistics, logic, writing, and speaking, as well as breadth of knowledge in arts, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, diversity, and integrated and applied learning experiences. Students also complete 15 credit hours of art history courses, including global art surveys, history of photography, and an advanced art history elective, alongside a 12-credit foundation core emphasizing drawing, 2D and 3D design, foundation studio, and lectures. The photography major itself includes 33 credit hours of specialized courses such as introduction to photography, commercial photography, portrait and product photography, medium and large format techniques, color photography, advanced photography, professional practices, portfolio review, and senior exhibition, ensuring technical mastery and conceptual development. Additionally, students complete 0–3 credit hours in printmaking, selecting from courses such as introduction to printmaking, relief, intaglio, and other printmaking techniques. To enhance their artistic breadth, students must also complete 18 credit hours of studio electives, and all ART courses require a minimum 2.5 GPA for graduation. The program equips students with the technical, conceptual, and professional skills necessary for careers in fine art, commercial photography, or further graduate study.
