COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing requires a minimum of 120 credit hours, combining general education, art history, foundation courses, major requirements, and studio electives, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all ART courses required for graduation. General education coursework totals 36 credit hours and includes academic foundations in mathematics, statistics, logic, speaking, and writing, as well as breadth of knowledge across arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, with diversity and integrated learning components recommended. Art history requirements include 12 credit hours covering global art from prehistory to contemporary times, with options in Art Since 1945, Art and Critical Theory, or Contemporary Art Issues, complemented by 3 credit hours of art history electives allowing exploration of specialized topics such as Renaissance art, Greek and Roman art, history of photography, and museology. Foundation core courses totaling 15 credit hours provide essential skills in drawing, 2D and 3D design, life drawing, and foundation studios, while the Painting and Drawing major requires 39 credit hours encompassing production, printmaking, intermediate and advanced drawing and painting, portfolio reviews, professional practices, and the senior exhibition. Additionally, students complete 9 credit hours of studio electives to broaden artistic experience and 6 credits of additional coursework for graduation, ensuring a comprehensive and professionally focused fine arts education.
