COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jewelry and Metalsmithing program includes a comprehensive curriculum designed to provide students with both a strong general education foundation and specialized training in the field. Students are required to complete 36 credit hours of general education courses, including academic foundations in mathematics, statistics, logic, speaking, and writing, as well as breadth of knowledge requirements in arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, with an emphasis on domestic and global diversity. Within the College of Arts & Sciences, students must complete a minimum of 40 credits of upper-level courses both within and outside their major. Art history requirements include ART 101, 102, and 103, covering global art from prehistory to the present, along with six credits of art history electives exploring topics such as medieval, Renaissance, Asian, and modern art. The foundation core consists of courses in drawing, 2D and 3D design, and studio practice, totaling 12 credit hours. Jewelry and metalsmithing requirements encompass 42 credit hours, including courses in metalsmithing, jewelry production, sculpture, color in metals, 3D modeling and prototyping, professional practices, and advanced metalsmithing, with multiple repetitions of ART 466 and portfolio review. Finally, students complete nine credits of studio electives to further refine their artistic skills and individual creative direction.
