COURSE CURRICULUM

The Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) program requires students to complete 12 credit hours of core courses and 6 credit hours of electives, providing both foundational knowledge and specialized expertise in the field. Core courses include RMI 414 Risk Management: Property and Casualty, RMI 415 Risk Management: Life and Health Insurance, RMI 418 Insurance Operations (offered in the fall), and RMI 461 Enterprise Risk Management (offered in the spring). These courses equip students with an in-depth understanding of insurance products, company operations, and comprehensive strategies for managing risk across organizations. To complement the core curriculum, students select two electives from a diverse list that allows them to tailor their education to specific interests such as finance, economics, law, analytics, and sales. Options include courses like Money and Banking, Financial Markets and Institutions, Actuarial Science, International Business Law, Corporate Finance, Investments, Risk and Insurance Analytics, and Professional Selling. Through this combination of required and elective coursework, students gain analytical, financial, and managerial skills essential for careers in insurance, risk management, and financial services, while developing the flexibility to adapt to evolving industry demands and pursue professional certifications or graduate studies.
