COURSE CURRICULUM

The recommended General Education and Professional Education coursework for students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mild/Moderate Intervention Specialist provides a comprehensive foundation for both academic and professional development. General Education requirements total 36 credit hours and include Academic Foundations such as mathematics, statistics, and logic, with STAT 260 (Basic Statistics) and communication courses including COMM 105, 106, or 263, alongside English composition I and II. Breadth of Knowledge courses emphasize arts and humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, including HIST 210, BIOL 103, CHEM 101 or 110, PSYC 100, and SOCIO 100. Diversity and Integrated and Applied Learning requirements ensure students develop cultural awareness and the ability to address complex societal issues. Professional Education requirements, totaling 78 credit hours, include core courses in education and psychology (EDFN 200, EDFN 220, EDIS 100, EDIS 225, and EDCI 308) as well as literacy-focused coursework (EDCI 240, 241, 286 or 440, and 445). Specialized courses in special education cover child development, early childhood understanding, intervention strategies, inclusive field experiences, assessment, management strategies, and programming for mild/moderate and moderate/intensive educational needs (CHFD 265, EDPI 330, EDIS 448, 451, 452, 453, 454, 456, 457, 462, 463, 467, 458). The program culminates in clinical practicum and student teaching experiences (EDIS 470, 486), preparing students with 78 professional education credit hours to effectively support diverse learners in K-12 settings.
