COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Coaching and Athletics Leadership program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in coaching, athletic leadership, and the broader sport and leisure industry, requiring a total of 120 credit hours for graduation. The curriculum integrates 36 credit hours of General Education courses, including academic foundations in mathematics, statistics, logic, speaking, and writing, as well as breadth of knowledge courses in arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, with opportunities to satisfy diversity and integrated applied learning requirements. The major includes 47 credit hours of required courses, covering career exploration in sport, introduction to coaching, motor learning and performance, coaching methods and evaluation, sport history, legal and ethical aspects, sports medicine, psychology of coaching, leadership, disabilities and physical activity, sport media relations, and a practicum in coaching and leadership, ensuring students gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. Additionally, students select 36 credit hours of electives from topics such as sport sociology, facility management, management strategies, sport and event planning, strength and conditioning, nutrition, psychology of injury rehabilitation, personal health, and stress management, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests and career goals. A grade of C or better is required in all SPRT, EXER, PHED, and HEDU courses to meet graduation standards, preparing students for professional opportunities and advanced study in sport coaching, administration, and leadership.
