COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Sport Analytics at The University of Akron combines a rigorous curriculum in mathematics, statistics, computer programming, and business with specialized sport-focused courses to prepare students for careers in analytics-driven roles within the sports industry. The program requires 120 credit hours, including 36 credits in General Education, covering academic foundations, breadth of knowledge, diversity, and integrated learning, 4 additional business credits, 60 credits in the Sport Analytics Core Curriculum, and 20 credits of electives. Core courses include accounting, finance, management, marketing, database management, programming for data science, applied econometrics, statistical analysis, and sport-specific business and consulting projects, as well as applied regression, machine learning, and advanced statistical computing. Students also gain practical, experiential learning opportunities through capstone projects and consulting courses, allowing them to apply analytical and decision-making skills to real-world sport business problems. Elective options allow further specialization in areas such as marketing analytics, economics of sports, linear algebra, data warehousing, and strategic leadership. By integrating technical expertise, business acumen, and sport-specific knowledge, this program equips graduates with the quantitative, critical thinking, and professional skills necessary to pursue careers as sport analysts, consultants, or business leaders in a data-driven and rapidly evolving sports industry.
