COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy requires a total of 120 credit hours, combining general education, prerequisite, core, and additional required courses to prepare students for professional practice. The program includes 18 hours of general education, 21 hours of prerequisites, 62 hours of core respiratory therapy courses, and 19 hours of other required courses. Recommended general education subjects include mathematics, public speaking, English composition, ethics, psychology, sociology, biology, and chemistry, ensuring a well-rounded academic foundation. Prerequisite courses cover algebra, chemistry, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and introductory respiratory therapy concepts. Core courses provide in-depth knowledge and practical training in respiratory therapy procedures, cardiopulmonary anatomy, physiology, diagnostics, pharmacology, pathology, neonatal and pediatric care, mechanical ventilation, and advanced critical care. Students also gain extensive clinical experience through multiple practicum courses. Additional required courses, such as human diversity, biomedical ethics, organizational supervision, and death and dying, enhance leadership, ethical reasoning, and cultural competence in healthcare settings. The program integrates science, clinical practice, and patient care principles, preparing graduates to deliver evidence-based respiratory care and assume professional roles in hospitals, clinics, and community health organizations while meeting national standards for respiratory therapy education and practice.
