COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Primary Inclusive Teacher Preparation (Age 3 through Grade 5) requires a total of 130 credit hours, including General Education, Professional Education Core, Content Area, Literacy Core, Early Childhood Inclusion Core, and Student Teaching. General Education coursework, totaling 36 credits, covers Academic Foundations in mathematics, statistics, logic, speaking, and writing, as well as Breadth of Knowledge across arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, with opportunities to address domestic and global diversity and engage in integrated or applied learning. The Professional Education Core, comprising 15 credits, includes foundational courses in education, educational psychology, instructional design, assessment, and exceptionalities. The Content Area, totaling 25 credits, integrates arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, supporting both General Education and major-specific requirements. The 12-credit Literacy Core focuses on foundational literacy, word study, phonics, spelling, teaching multiple texts, and literacy assessment. The Early Childhood Inclusion Core, requiring 54 credits, emphasizes child development, mathematics, science, social studies, expressive arts, inclusive teaching strategies, special education programming, collaboration with families and professionals, and assessment in special education. Finally, 12 credits are dedicated to Student Teaching, including a clinical practicum in special education and student teaching in inclusive early childhood settings. The program prepares graduates to effectively teach and support diverse learners in inclusive primary classrooms, fostering academic, social, and emotional growth while meeting the needs of all children.
