COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering requires a total of 125–127 credit hours, integrating general education, program-specific general education, mathematics and natural science, probability and statistics, engineering core, mechanical engineering core, technical electives, and a capstone design project. Students complete 36 credit hours of general education coursework, including mathematics, statistics, logic, speaking, writing, arts, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and diversity, with integrated and applied learning opportunities such as complex issues or capstone courses. Program-specific general education courses, including Calculus I, Principles of Chemistry I with lab, Elementary Classical Physics I, and introductory economics, also satisfy general education requirements, totaling 15 credit hours. Additional mathematics and science requirements include Calculus II and III, Ordinary Differential Equations, and Elementary Classical Physics II, totaling 15 credit hours. Probability and statistics requirements are met through courses like Probability and Statistics for Engineers or Applied Statistics. The engineering core includes Engineering Statics and Basic Electrical Engineering, while the mechanical engineering core covers foundational and advanced topics such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, kinematics, systems dynamics, materials science, control systems, mechanical vibrations, labs, and design concepts, totaling 53 credit hours. Students complete nine credits of technical electives, with at least six at the 400-level in Mechanical or Aerospace Systems Engineering, and a four-credit capstone design project, ensuring mastery of both theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on engineering skills.
