COURSE CURRICULUM

The Cyber Forensics Bachelor’s Degree at The University of Akron combines a rigorous curriculum in digital forensics, network forensics, and cybersecurity with a comprehensive general education foundation to prepare students for careers as digital forensics analysts, cyber forensics specialists, and law enforcement professionals. Students complete 36 credit hours of General Education coursework, including mathematics, statistics, writing, speaking, arts and humanities, natural and social sciences, diversity, and integrated learning, ensuring a well-rounded academic foundation. The major core consists of 80 credit hours of specialized courses, covering topics such as cybercrime, computer forensic methods, file system and network forensics, ethical hacking, cyber warfare, wireless and Windows forensics, intrusion detection, and digital evidence, alongside criminal justice courses in law, criminal investigation, ethics, and crime analysis. Students also gain practical technical skills through courses in Unix/Linux, networking basics, and network monitoring and management, culminating in a cyber forensics internship and a capstone project to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. In addition, students select nine credits of electives from options including cybersecurity fundamentals, applied data mining, and applied cryptography, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests. This program integrates theoretical knowledge, applied skills, and ethical considerations to equip graduates for the growing demands of the cyber forensics field.
