COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Technology builds on the foundational knowledge of the AAS in Construction Engineering Technology, requiring a minimum of 120 credits for completion, including all University of Akron General Education requirements. Students complete 36 credits of General Education coursework covering Academic Foundations, including mathematics, statistics, logic, speaking, and writing, as well as Breadth of Knowledge courses in arts and humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, with integrated diversity and applied learning components. Program-specific General Education requirements completed during the AAS include Technical Report Writing, Technical Algebra and Trigonometry, and College Physics I and II, satisfying the writing, mathematics, and science requirements. Mathematics courses such as Technical Calculus I and II and Accounting principles provide additional analytical and financial skills. The core curriculum includes Construction Engineering Technology Core I and II courses covering statics, professional construction topics, building construction, plan reading, strength of materials, supervision, structural elements, inspection, materials testing, estimating, site engineering, field management, foundation and mechanical systems, safety, advanced estimating, green building practices, risk management, contracts, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Students gain practical experience through a 15-week full-time Cooperative Education work period in the construction industry. The program also includes nine credits of technical electives in areas such as geomechanics, building codes, residential construction, AI in construction, lean building, legal aspects, workshops, and independent study, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for professional roles in construction management and engineering.
