COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems (CIS) – Software Development Option is structured as a four-year program totaling 120 credit hours, providing a balanced combination of general education, core CIS courses, technical electives, and experiential learning. In the first year, students complete foundational courses including Writing I and II, Speaking, Technical Algebra and Trigonometry, and introductory CIS courses such as Logic/Programming, Web Development, Unix/Linux, Visual BASIC, Cybersecurity Fundamentals, and Database Management, totaling 31 credits. The second year builds on these foundations with Accounting Principles I and II, Systems Analysis & Design, JAVA Programming, Microeconomics, Marketing, Finance, Management, and a CEPS Internship, alongside natural science requirements, totaling 31 credits. In the third year, students advance into technical programming and software development courses including Client/Server Programming, Java or C++ Programming II, Discrete Mathematics, Ethics and Law in IT, and CIS Software Development technical electives, while also completing communication and arts requirements for 29 credits. The fourth year emphasizes senior-level work with applied data mining, senior design projects, data communications and networking, technical data analysis, humanities and social science requirements, and global diversity courses, totaling 29 credits. This carefully sequenced curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge, hands-on programming experience, and professional development to prepare graduates for careers as software developers, database managers, and IT specialists across diverse industries.
