COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems (CIS) – Cybersecurity option requires students to complete a comprehensive curriculum combining general education, core CIS courses, technical specialization, and practical experience. General Education coursework, totaling 36 credit hours, covers academic foundations in mathematics, statistics, logic, writing, and speaking, along with breadth of knowledge in arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, and includes diversity and integrated applied learning requirements. Students must also demonstrate computer literacy through a placement test or completion of CISS 105. Program-specific general education includes technical algebra and trigonometry to meet mathematics requirements. The cybersecurity core, totaling 48 credit hours, introduces students to logic and programming, cybersecurity fundamentals, Unix/Linux, database management, networking, routing, hardware support, network authentication, ethics, programming for cybersecurity, virtualization, advanced Unix/Linux, security management, and a senior cybersecurity project. Digital forensics courses provide 15 credit hours covering cyber forensics, cybercrime, ethical hacking, and network and wireless forensics, while additional mathematics and statistics courses, including discrete mathematics, applied cryptology, and introductory statistics, total 11 credit hours. Students complete a technical specialization in either networking and infrastructure security or software security, totaling 12–13 credit hours. Graduation also requires a 2.0 GPA in all CIS courses, and students gain practical experience through an internship or cooperative education work period.
