COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering at The University of Akron is a comprehensive 120-credit program designed to integrate both hardware and software expertise, providing students with the technical foundation to excel in computing systems. General Education requirements total 36 credit hours, including courses in mathematics, statistics, logic, arts and humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and diversity, with several courses overlapping with program-specific requirements. Core mathematics and natural science courses include calculus series, differential equations, physics, and chemistry, while computer science fundamentals cover introductory programming and data structures. Electrical engineering courses, such as circuits, signals and systems, and physical electronics, provide students with essential hardware knowledge. Computer engineering-specific courses focus on digital logic design, operating systems, computer systems, embedded systems interfacing, and computer networks, complemented by a capstone design project sequence to develop practical problem-solving skills. Students also complete 15 elective credits, meeting breadth and depth requirements across specialization areas including analog and digital hardware, communications and signal processing, numerical computation, and software and algorithms, ensuring both versatility and expertise.
