COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry program’s curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both theoretical and experimental chemistry while also fulfilling general education and college-wide requirements. Students complete 36 credit hours of recommended General Education coursework, including mathematics, statistics, and logic, with courses such as Analytic Geometry and Calculus I–III, and Introduction to Ordinary Differential Equations, alongside speaking and writing requirements. Breadth of Knowledge requirements cover arts and humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, incorporating courses such as Principles of Chemistry I and II with laboratories, and Elementary Classical Physics I and II. Students must also demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language or complete an American Sign Language alternative, along with completing 40 credits of upper-level courses both within and outside the major. Core chemistry coursework totals 40 credits and includes foundational courses in organic, inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistry, supported by multiple laboratory experiences, and requires a minimum grade of C- in each required course. Physics and mathematics requirements emphasize classical physics and advanced calculus. Additionally, students complete at least seven credits of advanced chemistry electives, including options such as biochemistry, advanced organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, internships, research projects, or honors projects. This comprehensive curriculum ensures students develop strong analytical, laboratory, and research skills, preparing them for careers in chemistry, interdisciplinary science, or further professional study.
