COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a Polymer concentration combines a strong foundation in general chemistry, physics, and mathematics with specialized coursework in polymer science, preparing students for advanced study or careers in materials and chemical industries. Students complete 36 credit hours of recommended General Education courses, including mathematics, statistics, logic, writing, speaking, arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, along with integrated and applied learning experiences. Language proficiency is also required through the first year of a foreign language, and students must complete at least 40 upper-level credits in and outside the major. Core chemistry courses, totaling 38 credit hours, cover principles of chemistry, qualitative analysis, organic and physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, and advanced inorganic chemistry, ensuring a solid understanding of chemical structure, properties, and reactions. Physics and mathematics requirements provide essential quantitative and problem-solving skills. The polymer concentration emphasizes polymer chemistry, polymer physics, or polymer science laboratory courses, along with research in polymer science, totaling 7–15 credit hours. This focus equips students with specialized knowledge in polymer synthesis, characterization, and applications. Through classroom theory, laboratory experience, and research projects, students develop technical expertise, critical thinking, and practical skills essential for careers in polymer and materials science, chemical manufacturing, biotechnology, and related fields.
