COURSE CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering alongside the Cooperative Education certificate integrates rigorous engineering and biomedical coursework with practical, hands-on experience. In the first year, students establish foundational knowledge in chemistry, calculus, physics, and introductory biomedical engineering, complemented by English composition and seminars. The second year builds on this foundation with human anatomy and physiology, engineering statics, biomedical computing, mechanics for biological systems, and design principles, along with cooperative education work periods in the summer to gain real-world experience. The third year emphasizes core biomedical engineering topics such as biomaterials, bioelectronics, biomedical regulatory processes, circuits, thermal science or thermodynamics, and ethics, while students begin their technical electives and cooperative education requirements. In the fourth year, students continue cooperative education work periods, engage in biophysical measurements, modeling and simulation, biomechanics and biomaterials labs, and transport fundamentals, along with a design project needs analysis and general education courses. The fifth year culminates in senior design projects, advanced technical electives, probability and statistics, and additional general education or honors distribution courses. This integrated plan ensures students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for careers in biomedical engineering, medical technology, research, or graduate study, while the Cooperative Education certificate provides valuable industry experience to enhance professional readiness.
