COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biochemistry curriculum at The University of Akron provides a structured, four-year plan designed to build a strong foundation in the molecular and chemical principles of living systems while integrating laboratory experience and professional preparation. In the first year, students complete foundational courses in biology, chemistry, precalculus mathematics, and writing, establishing the essential knowledge needed for advanced study. The second year emphasizes organic chemistry, genetics, cell and molecular biology, and introductory physics, along with continued mathematics coursework, while students begin to explore laboratory techniques and analytical skills. In the third year, students advance into biochemistry lectures and laboratories, molecular biology, and physical chemistry for the biological sciences, complemented by humanities, social science, and language courses, developing both scientific expertise and well-rounded communication abilities.
