COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration at the University of Akron follows a structured four-year curriculum designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both the clinical and administrative aspects of health care. In the first year, students build a foundation in medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, mathematics, social sciences, and writing skills, ensuring a strong basis for health care studies. The second year introduces courses in accounting, health care services, and analytics, as well as disease processes, while students continue developing humanities, arts, and general education knowledge. The third year focuses on specialized health care skills, including basic procedural and diagnostic coding, pharmacology, clinical information systems, health care management foundations, and medical insurance, supplemented with electives for deeper learning. In the final year, students engage in advanced topics such as health care coding capstone projects, human resource management, management information systems, legal concepts, quality management, finance, and planning and marketing, alongside upper-level electives to round out their expertise. Throughout the program, students gain practical knowledge, analytical skills, and leadership abilities, preparing them for supervisory and management roles in diverse health care settings. The degree totals 120 credit hours and equips graduates with the education necessary to navigate the growing and complex health care industry successfully.
