COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting program at The University of Akron’s George W. Daverio School of Accountancy follows a structured four-year plan totaling 123 credit hours, designed to develop students’ analytical, technical, and professional skills. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through courses such as College of Business Success Seminar, English Composition, Mathematics, Public Speaking, Sociology, and core liberal arts requirements. The second year introduces business fundamentals with courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Accounting Principles I and II, Marketing, Management, International Business, and introductory Statistics. During the third year, students progress to more advanced accounting topics such as Cost Management, Financial Reporting and Analysis I and II, Accounting Systems and Internal Control, Federal Taxation, Business Analytics, and Business Law. The fourth year emphasizes higher-level competencies through courses like Advanced Financial Reporting, Business Entity Taxation, Assurance Services, Advanced Applied Analytics, and Strategic Management. Students also select accounting and free electives to tailor their studies toward individual career interests. The program integrates business communication, data-driven decision-making, and ethical practices throughout, preparing graduates for professional certifications such as CPA or CMA and equipping them with the skills needed for leadership roles in accounting, finance, and business management across diverse industries.
